Fiberglass vs. Concrete Pools in Panama’s Climate

Panama is hot and humid most of the year, with a long rainy season. If you’re used to pools in Florida, Arizona or Ontario, a few things work differently here, and the type of pool you choose matters. We build both fiberglass and concrete pools, so here’s an honest comparison.

The short answer

For most homes, a fiberglass pool is faster, simpler and less expensive. A concrete pool makes sense when you want a shape or size that no fiberglass model offers, and you’re willing to wait longer and pay more.

Time to build

This is the biggest difference. A fiberglass pool is made in our factory while your site is prepared, so we deliver it within 30 days at most from the day you sign the contract.

A concrete pool is built on site, from the ground up, so it takes longer. The schedule depends on the design, and we give it to you in the quote. In the rainy season, outdoor construction days are harder to count on, so a short job is a real advantage.

Cost

Our fiberglass pools start at USD 8,500 installed for the Bermuda, which is 2.90 x 2.50 m (9.5 x 8.2 ft), and go up to USD 29,000 for the Atenea 11, which is 10.00 x 4.00 m (32.8 x 13.1 ft). These 2026 prices are valid until November 15, 2026.

Concrete pools are custom, so each one is quoted on its own design.

Design freedom

Concrete wins here. It can be any shape or size, with finishes like glass mosaic tile or stone. Fiberglass comes in set models, from compact to long rectangular shapes, all 1.40 m (4.6 ft) deep. If one of the models fits your yard, you get a finished product that’s already been tested in our factory.

Warranty

  • Fiberglass: 10 years on the shell and 5 years on the gel coat, the smooth finish inside the pool.
  • Concrete: 5 years on the structure.

Both warranties come in writing. Equipment like the pump and filter carries a warranty of 1 year from the manufacturer, valid only with a voltage protector. In Panama, power surges during storms are common enough that we insist on it.

Living with it in the tropics

A few practical points for Panama’s climate:

  • Chlorine: never throw granular chlorine straight into a fiberglass pool. It damages the finish. Dissolve soluble chlorine completely in a bucket of water first, then pour it in while you walk around the pool. Tablets go in the skimmer.
  • Salt chlorination: we recommend it. With a salt system, the pool finish lasts around 10 years.
  • Water temperature: if you want warmer water, a heat pump runs about USD 1,000 to 4,000, depending on efficiency and energy use.
  • No jets by default: our pools come with a skimmer and return nozzles that keep water moving toward the filter. Massage jets can be added to any pool, but they raise the price and need a bigger pump.

Made in Panama

Every fiberglass shell we sell is built in our own factory in Panama, by a local team. You’re welcome to visit by appointment, Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to see the models in person before you decide. Our founding engineer has 40 years of experience building pools, with a history of changes and improvements along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Is fiberglass or concrete better for Panama’s climate?

Both work well here. Fiberglass is faster to install, within 30 days at most from signing, and usually costs less. Concrete allows any shape or size; each concrete pool is custom and quoted on its own design.

What warranty comes with each type?

Our fiberglass pools have 10 years on the shell and 5 years on the gel coat. Concrete pools have 5 years on the structure. Equipment has a warranty of 1 year from the manufacturer, valid only with a voltage protector.

Do I need a permit for a pool in Panama?

Permits follow current Panamanian law, and we help you with the process.

Can I see the pools before buying?

Yes. You can visit our factory in Panama by appointment, Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
